Source and Evidence Policy
These are the primary sources behind the guides, grouped by type. Each guide lists the exact pages it uses with their dates.
Search engines
- Google spam policies, reviews system, high quality reviews, qualifying outbound links, helpful content.
United States
- FTC Endorsement Guides, 16 CFR Part 255, and the rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465).
- State gaming regulators, for example a New Jersey DGE letter order, Michigan Gaming Control Board and Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
United Kingdom
- ASA and CAP guidance; Gambling Commission guidance and LCCP.
Germany
- GlüStV 2021 as published by Bayern.Recht; UWG (statute text mirror).
Canada
- AGCO news and Registrar's Standards; iGaming Ontario.
Secondary sources
Used only for background, and named in the text. Example: New Jersey's affiliate rules are cited from a primary DGE letter order; a 2014 law firm summary is listed as background only.
How we check a source
- Open the source itself, not a summary of it, and record the date it was read.
- Copy any quotation exactly, and link to the page that holds it.
- Record the "last updated" or publication date the source shows, or "no date shown".
- Prefer the regulator, the law or the search engine's own documentation over news coverage.
- Where a rule has exceptions, state them, or say that exceptions exist.
Rechecks
Rules change. Each page shows the date it was last updated, and a page is rechecked when a cited source changes or a reader reports an error. Corrections are recorded on the page. If a source can no longer be reached, the claim is checked again or removed.
What we do not use
Operator marketing as proof of facts, unattributed statistics, paid placements and affiliate feeds.
